Arcania: Gothic 4 vs Gothic 3
Arcania: Gothic 4
Arcania: Gothic 4 returns as the fourth and possibly the final installment of the Gothic series. This time, you take on the role of a nameless hero who just had his village destroyed by the king's paladins. However, as you set off on your quest of vengeance, you gradually realize that this event is driven by a malicious hidden power. The storyline is so much better in this installment due to the many surprises, plot twists and cliffhangers, and it does have a pretty nice combat system. However, many players put some flak to this game mainly because the game isn't exactly "Gothic" but pretending to be by using the "Gothic" name, but partly because the game does have some boring quests. That said, the game is still a pretty decent RPG.
Gothic 3
Gothic 3 lets continue your adventure as the nameless hero of Khorinis and decide which side to side with - King Rhobar and his last troop of followers or the despicable Hashishin who has sided with the orcs that are causing chaos across Myrtana. The game, like the two before it, are driven by its story and the path of its narrative is largely driven by the players' own choices. The world is as open as ever and you can meet and interact with a host of interesting characters. The game even has a class-free character development system that is admittedly increasingly rare in recent days. That said, Gothic 3 may be fun back in the day, but the game hasn't managed to hold up the passing of time unfortunately. Due to this, if you do plan on getting this game, you might want to consider getting some mods.
