WordCrafting: A Tower of Words vs Words with Friends
WordCrafting: A Tower of Words
WordCrafting: A Tower of Words is a very intriguing and unique, fantasy-themed word puzzle game that combines the strategy and physics needed in tower-building games with the fun of unscrambling the letters in a word and making crossword puzzles. It may not be the easiest game to get into, but once you get how it works, you will quickly realize how refreshingly entertaining it is.The game offers 3 different game modes, which will be unlocked as you complete the previous mode. The game starts you off with the easiest MishMash mode, which basically consists of tower-building and unscrambling letters, and then move you on to the Classic mode that will require you to form your own words as you build your towers. Lastly, you'll get to the Endless mode whereby you will attempt to build the highest tower you can and see how well you rank among your friends on the leaderboard. There is also a Word of the Day mini-game to play, and some collectibles that you can collect by opening treasure chests.
Once in a while, I will stumble on a very much underrated word game that’s so unique, intriguing, refreshing, and challenging that it completely blows my mind (in a good way), and I’ve got to admit – WordCrafting: A Tower of Words is, without a doubt, one of these incredibly rare games. The number of new words you can learn through the MishMash mode of this game is simply astounding as well.
Granted that not many wordies may enjoy a game as different as this one, especially since the game seems to focus more on building solid structures rather than testing your vocabulary (at least in the MishMash mode), WordCrafting is definitely a game that wordies simply must try.
Words with Friends
Words with Friends is one of the most popular words games on the mobile platform for several years running. Developed and published by Zynga, the game was eventually ported over to the PCs through the social network, Facebook. In terms of gameplay, Words with Friends has similar mechanics with the timeless classic board game, Scrabble, but with some interesting twists that had made the game a lot more fun and entertaining. For instance, the placement of the bonus tiles in this game is quite different from a traditional Scrabble board, and of course, the board size a much larger in the former as well.Another interesting aspect that made Words with Friends more approachable especially to newcomers is that players aren't penalized for putting in incorrect words that were challenged by your opponent. The dictionary used in Words with Friends, however, is a lot more lenient and accepts quite a number of "new-gen words". It also offers leaderboards to keep track on the scores and real time matches against friends or other players online.
Words with Friends may now face a lot of competition from similar word games nowadays, but back when it was first released, the game was HUGE! The game is still fun today and with the exciting updates that Zynga releases from time to time, the game will be kept going for years to come.
