F.E.A.R. 3 vs Serious Sam 3: BFE
F.E.A.R. 3
F.E.A.R. 3 definitely upped the notch by providing players with two incredible characters to play as - either Point Man, a genetically-enhanced soldier with superhuman reflexes and can manipulate time; or the undead spirit of his brother, Paxton Fettel, who wields amazing psychic powers. The AI in the game is as sneaky as ever, forcing you to have heightened combat awareness or you might just get attacked from behind. You can also pilot an enhanced mech in this game, which is always an awesome thing to do.However, many fans of the series feel that the story has been drawn out way past its lifespan and that the story in this installment is just underwhelming. There are also several major plotholes which just further messed up the story. Not to mention, the gunplay in this game seems to be a much-watered down version of its previous games.
So, if you're a hardcore fan of the story, you might still want to get this game while it's on offer just to enjoy some of the better parts of the plot. But if you're a newcomer, you might want to look to its first or second game instead.
Serious Sam 3: BFE
Serious Sam 3: BFE is a first-person, action shooter that offers an explosive, bullet-hell-like gameplay on top of an already pretty frantic, arcade-styled shooting action. Kiting the enemies around is a skill you'll need in this game since it doesn't have the sophisticated systems that modern tactical shooters have, like cover or duck and roll. There are plenty of weapons, including a nice selection of melee weapons, for you to carry out your massacre with and you can easily switch between them whenever you like! Not to mention, the game has several new enemy types, including the massive Khnum as well as the massive AND hideous Scrapjack, in addition to the usual ones.Serious Sam 3 also has several game modes, including co-op multiplayer, versus multiplayer along with survival single and multiplayer. If you have your friends around your place, you can even play the game in split-screen mode and yell your heads off together when a monster caught both of you off guard. Best yet, creative players and modders are even given a level editor to play with. New mods or levels created can also be shared to the game community via Steam Workshop.
When it comes to crazy, almost non-stop action, Serious Sam is among the best game franchises to play. Serious Sam 3: BFE is their latest game and thus, it does look a lot better than any of their previous games, but you can still expect the same old (equally exciting) gameplay you've come to love.
