Oxygen Not Included vs Starbound
Oxygen Not Included
Oxygen Not Included is one of the most highly anticipated new survival/base building game by Klei Entertainment, the very people behind the breakout indie title, Don't Starve. Set in a space-colony where oxygen itself is a limited commodity, Oxygen Not Included will put your management and planning skills to the test as you try your best to not only help your current colonist survive the next day but also to grow your colony into a bustling underground space colony. The game has a very in-depth base building system that may bring to mind a 2D version of SimCity. It also features realistic psychological effects (specifically, stress) of surviving, which may eventually lead to a breakdown, and naturally, you wouldn't want that. Aside from oxygen and the mental states of your people, you will also need to keep a variety of other factors well-regulated lest your colonists die from a necessity you've neglected. Best yet, like Don't Starve, each world you play in is procedurally generated, guaranteeing hours after hours of replayable fun!
In some way, Oxygen Not Included feels like a much more in-depth version of Fallout Shelter albeit with a different theme and Don't Starve's iconic art style. So, if you love Klei's games so far, you might want to check out Oxygen Not Included. However, bear in mind that the game is still a work in progress and if you have any suggestions, you can always send them some feedback.
Starbound
Starbound is amazingly fun 2D sandbox/exploration game that will put you in the shoes of a spacefarer and a captain of your very own spacecraft. As you travel through space, you will need to stop by planets to collect resources and perhaps even colonize them so you can also gather up a crew to man your ship. There are up to 7 races to play as, a story campaign where you are tasked to save the universe, and 3 different game modes ranging from Casual to Hardcore to either provide you with a fun relaxing experience or to put your survival skills to the test. You can even play the game cooperatively when you want. For modders, you can add in new races, biomes, dungeons, quests and anything else you'd like as well.Starbound can be turned into a pretty much an endless game due to its procedurally generated universe, where you can simply fly around in your spaceship looking for your next big adventure. Thus, you can definitely expect hours of gameplay at the very least for your first playthrough, making this game very well worth its price.
