Dead by Daylight vs Hyper Light Drifter
Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight is a rather interesting multiplayer game because it uses a 4-vs-1 where the 1 player plays as the Killer in the first-person view while the other 4 players take on the role of the Survivors who will have more situational awareness by playing in third person view. Each Killer/ Survivor will have their own progression system, allowing players to customize their character to their play styles and since each level is procedurally generated, predictability isn't exactly a word in this game's dictionary. The best part about the gameplay though is that the Survivors can actually choose to try to escape from the Killing Grounds together or in their own separate ways. It doesn't force you to cooperate with other Survivors and well, frankly, the axiom that goes "there is strength in numbers" may not ring true in this game... after all, by needing to locate only one of you, the Killer would have found and slayed all the Survivors in a single go.
Aside from the brilliant gameplay, Dead by Daylight also has the perfectly creepy atmosphere to match its somewhat gory theme. This is definitely not a game for the weak-hearted! However, the game has had a major technical fault which apparently wiped the progress of many players. Not to mention, playing in this game can be frustrating at times especially whenever either the survivors or the killer bring in overpowered add-ons which will tilt the game heavily in one side's favor. In fact, you can easily know who will win within the first few minutes of the game.
So, as amazing as the game concept is, Dead By Daylight still needs to do a ton of improvement, especially fix all of their game bugs, for it to be a game worth buying. That said, if you're interested to give it a try, you can wait for its Free-to_play weekends or you can buy it during a massive discount.
Hyper Light Drifter
Hyper Light Drifter is an action-adventure RPG with a very unique pixel-based art style and a fun gameplay that will keep you coming back for more. The storyline in this game is pretty bleak since you play as a drifter who happens to have an odd but vicious disease that keeps haunting your thoughts and dodging your every move. By traveling to the dark and savage lands of Buried Time, you hope to find a way to finally be free of this illness.Being ill, you aren't exactly in your fighting prime and so, instead of relying on your frailing strength, combat in this game mainly involves dashing away to avoid blows and trying to strike the enemy in between dashes. In some way, it may feel like being the less burly underdog in a WWE match. There are plenty of weapons to help you though, along with a variety of incredible skills which you can master.
The world you play in is also quite vast, with plenty of hidden nooks and crannies - usually with a bonus reward in them - for you to find. In addition to the story mode, there is a horde mode (endless) as well where you can truly put your combat skills to the test. However, one of the best things about this game is the soundtrack which somehow seems to complement the game's graphics and its overall atmosphere perfectly.
With the unique pixel art and the old-school feel, Hyper Light Drifter may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you do enjoy such games, you'll find that this game is truly a hidden indie gem.
