Dead by Daylight vs This War of Mine
Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight is a rather interesting multiplayer game because it uses a 4-vs-1 where the 1 player plays as the Killer in the first-person view while the other 4 players take on the role of the Survivors who will have more situational awareness by playing in third person view. Each Killer/ Survivor will have their own progression system, allowing players to customize their character to their play styles and since each level is procedurally generated, predictability isn't exactly a word in this game's dictionary. The best part about the gameplay though is that the Survivors can actually choose to try to escape from the Killing Grounds together or in their own separate ways. It doesn't force you to cooperate with other Survivors and well, frankly, the axiom that goes "there is strength in numbers" may not ring true in this game... after all, by needing to locate only one of you, the Killer would have found and slayed all the Survivors in a single go.
Aside from the brilliant gameplay, Dead by Daylight also has the perfectly creepy atmosphere to match its somewhat gory theme. This is definitely not a game for the weak-hearted! However, the game has had a major technical fault which apparently wiped the progress of many players. Not to mention, playing in this game can be frustrating at times especially whenever either the survivors or the killer bring in overpowered add-ons which will tilt the game heavily in one side's favor. In fact, you can easily know who will win within the first few minutes of the game.
So, as amazing as the game concept is, Dead By Daylight still needs to do a ton of improvement, especially fix all of their game bugs, for it to be a game worth buying. That said, if you're interested to give it a try, you can wait for its Free-to_play weekends or you can buy it during a massive discount.
This War of Mine
This War of Mine is an indie, 2D survival management game that, unlike most games in its genre, is set not in a post-apocalyptic world but in a war-torn country. Despite being war-themed, the game doesn't cast you into the role of the brave soldier but of the average citizen trying to make the best of the situation and to survive long enough until the war breaks (if it ever).Due to this twist of perspective, along with the fact that every decision and action you make has consequences, both mentally and physically, on the character who did the deed as well as the team, the game ended up having a very tragic undertone and atmosphere throughout its gameplay. After all, you do have to make some difficult decisions in an effort to keep your people alive. From time to time, special events may also pop up and you will need to make a decision to be involved or to stay out of it.
Survival is also another important aspect of the game, and as such, you will need to scavenge for supplies and ensure that your people are well-fed and watered. Materials, tools, and items you gathered over your trips outdoors can be used to craft something else or be sold for some extra cash. During wartime, people are naturally more cautious and for some, more aggressive. It's wise to be careful whenever you encounter other "people" (they are NPCs), especially armed ones, lest your character get slain and your team stumbles straight into depression.
This War of Mine made headlights and game history with its challenging gameplay and of course, its brutally-honest look at the true victims of war. If you think your heart is ready to go through a rollercoaster of emotions, most of which are of the "sad" sort, then, you simply must give this game a try.
